Complete Definition of "big lug"

English

Noun
en-noun|big lugs

  1. a term of affection and endearment given towards a man whose unique personality traits reflect the opposite of his overall broading physique. For example, a man may be tall, physically built but isn't afraid to express his overall feelings and emotions. In other words, a big lug is a man that acts the opposite of what his overall image reflects, or acts against the stereotypical image of the tough guy.

Usage notes
The big lug is also a common character archetype in media such as books, movies, videogames and comic books. An example of this is the character "Eduardo" from "Foster's home for imaginary friends". Even though he is an imaginary friend who features giant teeth, horns and an overall menacing look, he loves puppies, is very emotional and is afraid of everything, traits that his overall appearance do not give out in a first impression.
